  1. Check to make sure all cable inputs and outputs are connected if the device shows a blank screen. If necessary, unplug each one, then reconnect them.
  2. Verify that the MX830 terminal has power and is functioning properly if the serial port is malfunctioning. Make sure that the device is connected to the serial port of the multiport cable. If the serial port is still not functioning, check the cable as it may be the problem. If possible, swap out with another cable to see if that corrects the problem.
  3. Swipe the card in the proper way if the terminal will not process the transaction. The card's black magnetic strip should be facing down and toward the screen. If possible, use another card to see if the issue lies with the machine or the card - some cards become worn and lose the ability to be read. Also, attempt to process the card manually by entering the numbers on the digit pad. If the transaction goes through, the problem is with the card.
  4. Make sure that you have the correct stylus for the MX830 if the stylus does not work. Additionally, check to make sure that the stylus cable is inserted correctly. If you have another stylus handy, swap it in to see if it works. If it does, then the issue is with the first stylus.
  5. Recalibrate the touch screen by pressing the button by the magnetic card stripe reader, using the point of a pen or a paper clip if the touch screen does not work. Hold the button down until the reader turns on. Release the button when the light in the middle turns off. When prompted, enter your password for the device. Then tap on the word "Configure" on the screen, the touch "Calibrate." Follow the directions given on the screen.
