Set the tax rate for your location

The Shopify POS app applies taxes based on the store location that you assign to your POS device. If you're using Shopify POS away from your store location and you have, then the tax rate is based on the current GPS location of your iPad or iPhone (iOS devices only). To set a new tax rate for your POS location:
  1. Note

You need to do this step even if you never ship your products (for example, if you're only running Shopify POS), or if you have enabled.
  2. From your Shopify admin, click Settings, and then click Taxes.
  3. Click the new tax region and set the tax rate, then click Save taxes.
  4. Add your new location to your Locations settings.
  5. If your new location isn't shown, then background the app by pressing the home button on your device. Open the Shopify POS app again, and your new location should be available.

Enable local tax rates

If you enable local tax rates, then Shopify POS will retrieve the tax rate for your current location using your wi-fi connection and GPS whenever you're away from the device's assigned location. For example, if your store location is in LA but you're selling in San Francisco, then Shopify POS will charge state tax only (and not county tax) since your transaction is made outside of LA county. To enable local tax rates:
  1. From the Shopify POS Settings screen, tap General to view the general settings.
  2. Under Location, tap the Automatically retrieve local tax rates toggle button:Retrieve local tax rates
  1. Go to the Shopify POS app Settings screen on your iPhone.
  2. In the Taxes section, enable the Auto-retrieve local tax rates option by tapping its toggle button:
